RPDR S4,E6: Float Your Boat-Top & Bottom (NSFW)

This post is NSFW

I don’t know where it’s coming from. Maybe RuPaul had this in his five year plan all along. Maybe he had an epiphany between the last season and this one. Ultimately it’s not important. What is important is that this show has gone from being a guilty pleasure to a must-see, entertaining deconstruction of what it means for some of us to be gay, and the Art of Drag.

So the mini-challenge is to don breastplates and participate in a Wet T-shirt contest at Dragtona Beach.

If they keep showing the Pit Crew and hunky young eye-candy to whoop and cheer, then EVERY week should include a Wet T-shirt contest at Dragtona Beach. As John Polly and Jon Mallow bring up in their weekly recap Drag Ya’ Later with Jon & John: the show is going all out on these sets and extras; and my eyes–and a few other parts of my body–are very grateful for it.
The Queen is SO confused by Standards and Practices. I’m not sure why you can show a breast plate with nipples laying on a table, and a person trying them on in one scene; and have to blur the same device in another.
Anyway when all is said and done, Willam out-titillates the rest of the lady boys (to the further chagrin of Miss O’Hara) and does what he said he was going to do. I know one of the things that turn folks off about this Diva is his blazing confidence. I think it’s one of the things that makes him so interesting to watch. I could see if he didn’t bring it, but he does. It is SO much easier for me to deal with a cocky bitch who has the goods to back it up, than someone who thinks they’ve got it together and have no clue *cough*Milan*cough*.Ah, well. Too bad George Carlin isn’t around to explain it to me.

The Queen was truly moved by the incorporation of Stonewall into the episode. Bianca commented that this was the kind of gay TV that he could support. This is what he expected from RuPaul, as someone who has broken stereotypes about drag.

The TRUE Fierce Black Queen: Marsha P. Johnson 1944-1992

What a brilliant and pleasurable experience to watch Chad, Sharon and Willam school these guys on their history. What a forum to have for the young people of this generation! Especially when we are seeing one of the most significant rises of HIV in young men of color between 13 and 29. Young gay men have no real role models to guide them these days (if anyone had told me at 21 that those words would EVER come out of my mouth, I would have bitch-slapped them). Without history, we are condemned to repeat the mistakes of the past. I want so much more for the beautiful young men I see every day.

So it’s Condragulations to Willam.

The Queen has to admit that the challenge was a Drag Race version of Project Runway’s “Make A Pretty Dress” with a twist. A twist that Bianca and I believe made it quite difficult for the queens to produce something with any kind of finesse (more about that in the next post). But it was fun to see him be recognized for his effort. Bianca will correct me if I’m wrong (BOY will Bianca correct me if I’m wrong), but we believe there was a difference between Willam and Milan’s float and statement. A difference that highlights the meticulousness and confidence with which he plays this game. Bravo.

And it’s Sashay Away for Milan.

Proving once again, that there is a God.

I wish him no ill will. And I actually think that he could have a pretty strong media career (possibly as a newscaster–he’s quite articulate, and has a certain ease with the camera when he’s not trying to play a character)…just not as an actor. Please. Anything but as an actor.

Thoughts? Opinions? Musings of Fierce Miss Things?

Just between us goils.

  1. I knew Milan would be going bye-bye when Ru said “fashion forward,” and Milan looked at her like a deer in the headlights.

I really loved Willam’s evil little shit routine this ep, he made me laugh.

Loved the history lesson Chad laid on Jiggly. “AND THAT’S IN LIFE, TOO!” I just went to Stonewall a month ago for the first time, it’s an awesome place, and you can just feel the history. Jiggly acts like she was born in a vacuum.

However, I was disappointed in Untucked when Jiggly called Willam a whore. As a woman, I am so tired of clothing/looks being the measure of a woman’s worth/sexuality/whathehellever.

We should do a live chat one ep! I know there’s ways to do that on the blog, it would be a blast.

    • I think Jiggly really wanted to learn, and appreciated what the older queens told her. Chad was especially awesome with her advice.

I’m totally with you re: Jiggly calling Willam a whore. I’ve been giving Jiggly the benefit of the doubt an awful lot, but that was just uncalled for. It really put me off, and made me kind of want to give her a good slap on the back of the head.

      • Yeah, but as Marzirocks noted below and Scotty has mentioned previously, it’s pretty surprising to learn that Jiggly is actually 30 years old, a year OLDER than Sharon and only 10 years younger than Grande Dame Chad, making the wide-eyed eagerness to learn a little less endearing, especially after the whore comment and a whole lot of juvenile behavior. But better late than never!

    • I find it hilarious that Jiggly called Willam a whore, but Willam showed absolutely no (fake) nipple while she was on stage. Jiggly pulled those things out in a HURRY. What a weird mini challenge for her to call her that… it’s a wet t-shirt contest. They’re SUPPOSED to be as slutty as possible. Calling her out for it seems kind of… redundant.

I do agree that clothing and appearance being the measure of a woman’s worth is really sad though. When even a drag queen calls someone a whore for pretending to be a woman… double standard!

  2. Perhaps, to the sensors opinion, you can tell they’re fake boobs if they’re laying on a table, but if someone was channel flipping and saw just the wet t-shirt contest part, someone might think they’re real? (I really have no idea. I was wondering why they blurred out the nipples as well. Those things are obviously fake as hell.)

I laughed extra hard at Phi Phi losing all her bits and pieces.

I LOOOOVE that they talked about Stonewall and what gay pride really started as. I was fortunate enough to know people willing to educate me about it in my early 20s, but so many people think it’s just a big party with rainbows and condoms.

Latrice’s face was TO DIE FOR. Those lips!

It was definitely time for Milan to go home. I’m not sure why she felt the need to strip every time… the wig snatching is not “shocking” the way she wants it to be.

My personal list for the next 3 to leave:
    Jiggly -well past time
Phi Phi- tired of listening to her talk
Dida- love this girl to pieces, she’s a sweetheart and she busts her ass. But she doesn’t have the experience for her to make it against the other 4. I want her to last longer than Jiggly and Phi Phi but I don’t think she will.

I want Sharon, Chad, Latrice, and Willam to be around for as long as possible. Bitches are hilarious.

I have about a zillion things to say about Untucked though. Kenya is a poor loser.

If you haven’t watched Untucked, spoilers ahead!

Phi Phi is a mean, mean little person, isn’t she… she reads that cruel letter and is all up on her high horse since Kenya said nice things to ONLY her… then says how it’s a community and they shouldn’t tear each other down and should support each other? She seems to have selective memory about how awful she is.

Speaking of that letter… ouch. One could argue that she isn’t comfortable with English enough to have said all those things to their faces while she was still on the show, but still. A letter? That is some 6th grade drama right there. Especially when pointing out things that someone has no control over… like Willam’s “man face”. Granted, if anyone can take that kind of hit and roll it to something funny, it was Willam.

Also, Willam wearing dresses from Forever 21? Hmm… she left that part out of Jiggly’s critique.

I used to like Kenya as a person. It wasn’t her fault she looks like she’s 11 and her being super sexual felt a little… awkward. But now, she’s just a bitter queen who lost. Not the kind of thing you want to leave as your last impression.

Her and Phi Phi SHOULD be best friends. No one else wants to be friends with people that negative.

I had to laugh out loud at Jiggly saying she’s “one of the young ones” who didn’t know her gay history. GIRL YOU ARE 30. You are far past making excuses for being uneducated based on how long you’ve been on this planet. Time you act your age in a lot of ways.

Latrice’s pads soaking up the water was HILARIOUS. I laughed so hard I stopped making sound when she said if she went swimming in drag, there would be no water left in the pool.

Whew! I think I covered it all.

Thanks for picking up the tab on Sunday FBQ! My midday hangover appreciated your generosity!

  3. Scotty, if I didn’t already love you, I would fall instantly in love with you for referencing my comedic/social critic hero George Carlin. I still miss him.

Willam is completely committed to his character. He knows her inside and out. But she took the opportunity to make the challenge about more than just her being in the spotlight. She also made a point of talking about why gay pride matters and how it affected him/her personally. Willam is smart as hell. S/he knows exactly what s/he’s doing at all times. (This pronoun thing is going to be the death of me.)

Milan just doesn’t have a sense of who she is as a drag queen. To use an grossly overused quotation “there’s no there there.” I like Milan as a guy. He seems pretty cool. But, as has been noted on the other two sites where I talk about Drag Race, I believe he’s more interested in building his acting career than he is in perfecting a drag persona.

Anyway, congratulations to Willam for taking it all this week. She totally brought it, and then some.

  4. Watching Phi Phi bad mouth everyone with glee is making me wish RuPaul based her final judgement on who the person is in and out of drag as well as the challenges. God forbid you would want that representing your brand.

So glad Willam won – she deserved it.

  5. I am SOOOOO sick of Phi Phi and the stank face she makes whenever Willam and Sharon talk. I don’t know if this is editing or not, but she always gives that b**** face. I just want to slap that look off of her. And Kenya’s letter was reality tv gold. I’m sort of thinking either it was written in Spanish and the producers took some liberties in translation to make it more harsh or Kenya really is a shady b**** who is a perfect match for Phi Phi. Anyway, this season is bangin and thanks for your commentaries, I really enjoy them.

      • Ahhh, a fellow pragmatist! The only question in my mind after hearing it was: “Did the producers have to get her to sign off on it for legal purposes?”

        Welcome to you both!

  6. Jiggly is 30? I can’t believe I missed that. Wow, she really has no excuse for her ignorance. I know it’s been said, but she really needs someone professional to talk to. Her issues need airing out.

Can Phi Phi go home already? I LOL’d for real when she came undone in the wet t-shirt contest. I’m tired of her shit, as evidenced by her attitude during Untucked. Oh, right, you shouldn’t be catty… ugh.
